Welcome

It is a pleasure to welcome you and your family to our school. Anglesey Primary Academy is a diverse, exciting and happy school where each child's uniqueness is valued. We pride ourselves on putting your children at the heart of everything we do.

Our aim is to give them a first class education where they can grow and develop as individuals and as a community, living and growing together.

Anglesey Primary Academy is a large primary school with three classes in each year group. The teaching staff work together to ensure there is a consistent approach across all the classes and are supported by skilled Teaching Assistants who help them deliver a motivating curriculum.

There are fantastic resources on offer too. There are two halls, a purpose-built Gymnasium, a recently installed third generation astro pitch, a fully equipped ICT suite which includes portable iPad trolleys which are integral to learning and much more.

Our Anglesey 4As underpin everything we do in our school and each half term we focus on a different one to help us ‘make our best better.

A = Ambition - reaching our dreams

Please come along for a visit -
we’d love to show you round!

Attendance

Good attendance is vital at Anglesey Primary Academy. The children cannot learn well unless they are here every day.

We encourage good attendance through lots of positive reward systems on an individual and team basis, as well as ensuring the curriculum is motivating and enjoyable for the children so that they want to be in school as much as possible.

We have six house teams which the children are divided into from across the school so that the older children can spend time with the younger children through occasional team days and activities. They work together to have the best attendance, gain the most behaviour points and play football and other sporting activities against each other.

Children can also earn ‘CARROTs’ for courteous and respectful behaviour around school. There are lots of incentives available coupled with a robust Discipline Policy that ensures everyone can learn in a safe and happy environment.

Phonics & Reading

At Anglesey Primary Academy, we believe that a child needs to learn to read as soon as possible as it opens up a whole world of opportunities for them.

Therefore, as soon as they start school, we teach the children Phonics (the decoding of words to be able to read). We do this in a fun and enjoyable way so that children are enthused to pick up a book and read to an adult or simply sound words out.

The children will remain on the Phonics programme until they can read. We offer parent workshops so that you know how to help your child at home as we strongly believe that a good parent partnership enables the best learning when we all work together.

We have a wealth of books for the children to take home, including a well-stocked library that is open after school and at lunchtimes for those children who enjoy curling up with a good book! Throughout the school day, the children will take part in lots of different reading activities. They might: read on their own, with a partner, to an adult, take part in group reading or Buddy reading. We believe the variety of reading opportunities hook children into reading and make them want to do it even more.

Look out for our ‘Rocket Reader’ incentive system which helps to motivate our children to read regularly.

Curriculum

We have worked hard to produce a stimulating and relevant curriculum for our children and we are always looking at ways we can continue to improve it so that the children will be motivated to learn.

We follow a ‘Talk for Writing’ approach to the teaching of Writing where children learn texts off by heart and have lots of fun adding in actions and performing them whenever they can. This helps the children to internalise the structure of the text and then write in a similar way.

We expect a high standard of presentation from the children and teach cursive writing from Early Years onwards. The children are incredibly proud of their books and always aim to do their best. In Maths, we provide lots of hands on activities for the children so they can really understand the concepts the teachers are trying to deliver by actually doing them.

The children are encouraged to ‘Prove it’ or ‘Convince me’ that their answer is correct which helps them develop their reasoning and justification skills. The other national curriculum subjects are built into half termly projects which capture the children’s imagination such as: ‘Heroes & Villians’, ‘Blue Abyss’, ‘Best Creator’, ‘Tomorrow’s World’ and ‘The Enchanted Woodland’ to name a few.

PE & ICT

At Anglesey Primary Academy, we believe that all children should have easy access to quality PE lessons and resources.

Therefore, we buy in expert coaches to teach specialised sports as well as class teachers being well trained to develop the children’s skills. This is complemented by our huge field, 3g astro turf football pitch, gym and halls!

There are a host of after school clubs on offer and we compete in a variety of sporting events throughout the academic year against other local schools.

ICT plays a key part in how we teach as each classroom is fitted with an Interactive Whiteboard with sound system which ensures the children’s learning is engaging. In addition to this, i-Pads are used regularly throughout lessons to support learning through internet use or apps. Class Blogs aid homework as teachers can set tasks that link to websites that will help the children.

Our school website is also regularly updated with lots of photographs of the children at work in and around the classroom which helps keep our parents fully informed.
